Scottish Water – Camphill Reservoir September 2008

In June of this year Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical Limited completed the site works and reporting of a ground investigation at Camphill Reservoir in Ayrshire, for Scottish Water.

A total of 5 boreholes were sunk on very steeply sloping ground using a special rig - the Geotechnical "P60" Rotary Slope Climbing Rig - which is specifically designed and adapted to work on slopes. The rotary rig was able to drill through the soils and progress through large boulders by switching drill bits. The purpose of the investigation was to establish groundwater flow within the dam embankment by installing 4 dual piezometers and one standpipe into the boreholes.

Photos of the site works clearly illustrate the versatility of such a unit in areas of difficult access.
